Key Objectives & Activities
“You will speak to these people.”
After the 2010 Haiti earthquake, I encountered a group of people who desperately needed a message of hope. I traveled in a truck with a well-known relief organization—they provided the transportation, and I was able to connect with people along the border. Such is the nature of disaster relief: urgent, fluid, and dependent on trust and collaboration.
At the same time, I was searching for a location to deploy a 40-member medical team. Logistics were enormous, and every decision mattered. While walking through one particular area, I suddenly sensed what felt like the brush of an angel's wing against my knee. I stopped and looked around, but no one was near me.
At that exact moment, the man walking in front of me turned, looked directly at me, and said, "You will speak to these people."
Because we discerned God's presence so clearly, that location was chosen for the medical team's response. The outcome affirmed a timeless leadership principle: following God's presence must precede decisive action. After planning and prayer, a leader waits—then moves—in obedience to God's leading.
In March, 2025, I had a stroke in Havana, Cuba. After a week in a hospital there I was Medi-evacuated to Sarasota, FL on a Leer jet. My wife Nancy and daughter Heidi flew to Cuba and negotiated with the local hospital and US Embassy to release me. It's quite a story. While in Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) rehab I felt that the Lord spoke to me. That's what Passion For Leaders is about; a clarion call to the radical life.
